Go Bus Egypt

I think it’s safe to say that most people who go to Egypt do so on a tour. After traveling Egypt independently for almost a month, I can also see why! Egypt is a very busy place and there is often conflicting information about how to travel around the country on your own.

There are also many options to get around this huge country such as domestic flights, trains, or different day trips/tours. Luckily if you are traveling on your own, you also have the option of taking the Go Bus in Egypt! Before we took our first Go Bus, we were very skeptical about it and not sure what to expect. We saw many bad reviews about Go Bus before we took it. However, we had a great experience on Go Bus and we would definitely use it again!

The Positives of Go Bus Egypt

  1. Price: This first one is a huge positive of taking Go Bus! You cannot beat the price!! Especially when you compare it to expensive flight tickets or private tours. You can buy tickets on Go Bus for as cheap as 100 EGP – or a little over $5 USD!
  2. Many Routes: This is another huge positive of Go Bus! There are so many routes to choose from such as between Cairo and Alexandria, Cairo and Sharm El Sheikh, Cairo and Luxor, Luxor and Hurghada, Hurghada and Dahab. According to their website they have 20 different routes all over Egypt! Go Bus is especially useful for trips from Hurghada to Luxor, like we did, as there weren’t any direct flights or trains. Unfortunately, there are no Go Buses to Aswan or Abu Simbel.
  3. Different Bus Options: This is also a positive of Go Bus (although it can be a negative if you aren’t careful)! There are many different Go Bus options. Not all Go Buses are the same! Also, different types of buses often leave at different times. So you might have to prioritize comfort or time when you book a ticket. I’ll go into the different bus classes below!
  4. Ease of Booking: We found it very easy to book tickets for Go Bus! You can book the tickets in person at a Go Bus station, online on the GoBus website, or even on their app.

Different Go Bus Egypt Bus Types

As I said above, there are many different comfort levels when it comes to booking a Go Bus. It’s very important that you are aware of which bus you are booking as this can make or break your trip!!! If you book a classic bus and expect the same amenities as an Aero Go Bus, you are going to be VERY disappointed! The most common types of Go Buses are:

  • Classic: the Classic Go Bus is pretty basic. It has a shared, overhead TV and air conditioning, but no wifi or additional extras.
  • Deluxe Plus & New Deluxe: The Deluxe Plus and the New Deluxe Go Buses are similar to the classic in that they have shared overhead TVs and air conditioning. However, they also have wifi! They’re still pretty basic buses.
  • GoMini: The GoMini Go Bus is actually a van. I wouldn’t consider it an actual bus. I haven’t personally taken it, however I would stick to big buses in Egypt as opposed to the little vans for safety reasons.
  • Elite Plus & Elite DD (double decker): The Elite Go Buses have lots of additional extras included! These are the buses you want if you want to be as comfortable as possible! Personal TVs, wifi, aircon, big seats, places to charge your phone. These buses even have food and drinks! They’re definitely worth the money if you want to be more comfortable.
  • Aero: The Aero Go Bus is the fanciest of all the Go Buses! It’s like the Elite Plus but even better.

When in doubt if you’re going for comfort, choose the more expensive bus. All of them are reasonably priced compared to western prices. However, the more expensive the ticket, the more that is included.

It’s also good to keep in mind that not all of the buses have toilets. I would advise planning on not having a toilet. Go to the bathroom in the bus station before you leave and again when your bus stops along the way.

How to Buy Go Bus Egypt Tickets

Now that you know the different route and bus options available, you need to buy tickets! Luckily you have different options to buy tickets as well!

  1. In Person at the Go Bus Station: The first option is to buy your tickets in person at the Go Bus station. You can double check the address of the bus station on the Go Bus website here. Make sure you specify which type of bus you want if you want to make sure you have things such as wifi or a personal TV!
  2. On the Go Bus Website: You can also buy your tickets online on the Go Bus website here. Be sure to double check the exact location that you will be leaving from as some cities have multiple bus stations (there are 13 different Go Bus stations in the Cairo/Giza Governorate)!
  3. On the GoBus App: There is a GoBus app for both android and apple that you can use to buy tickets. We personally didn’t use the app as we found the website easy to use (the app also has very bad reviews). Let us know how it works for you!

Go Bus Pitstops

Most of the buses stop at least once along your journey. At these stops you can go to the bathroom, buy some drinks or snacks, and get some fresh air. Make sure you have some small coins on you as most of the toilets have a fee to use them (usually 5 EGP)!

I also found the snacks at these pitstops to be overpriced. I’d advise stocking up on snacks ahead of time so you get a better deal. The merchants at the pitstops can also be quite assertive in trying to get you to look at their stores. As with all hustlers in Egypt, don’t feel obligated to look if you don’t want to! You can just as easily wait on the bus.
